Orofacial Myofunctional Therapy

& Airway Health Services

We provide individualized Orofacial Myofunctional Therapy for a range of functional concerns involving the tongue, lips, jaw and facial muscles. Therapy focuses on developing awareness, coordination and more efficient patterns of oral and facial function.

How Can Orofacial Myofunctional Therapy Help?

When the tongue, lips, jaw and facial muscles develop more appropriate resting and functional patterns, this may support more efficient breathing, chewing, swallowing and speech-related oral function, as well as dental and orthodontic function.

Depending on the individual's assessment and goals, OMT may be used to address concerns such as:

  • Mouth breathing

  • Tongue thrust and atypical swallowing patterns

  • Oral rest posture

  • Chewing and swallowing patterns

  • Speech-related oral function

  • Jaw and temporomandibular disorder (TMD)-related concerns

  • Sleep-related breathing concerns as part of a broader care plan
